Trainer Jeff Runco has become a household name in Charles Town for his countless training titles and abundant success on the two largest days of the circuit. Runco’s trainee researcher took the first two editions of the Charles Town Classic and the trainer made frequent trips to the winner circle on West Virginia Breeders Classics Night.
This Friday evening, Runco wants to add another big effort to his resume when he sends Zip Start Postward in class 2, $ 750,000 Charles Town Oaks for three -year -old mares. Zip Start is 20-1 on the morning line.
A daughter of Upstart co-owned by Coleswood Farm, Inc. And David Raim, Zip Start has won twice this year in three starts and four times in seven career trips with two of those victories in Zeven-Furlong posts for the State Merries bred. She arrives in peak shape after a five-length score in the Sylvia Bishop Memorial Stakes as the opportunities-on choice.

But the waters here are deeper in a race that has produced winners of degree 1 in recent years, as society and Vahva have produced. ZIP Start will be confronted with Wodka with a twist, second place in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies of last year and the 2-1 favorite, and four second-year students conditioned by Saffie Joseph, Jr., including Morning Line Second Choice Indy Last., Third in Grade 3 Victore.
“When we looked over the Noms, we didn’t think the race would be exceptionally difficult,” Runco said. “She’s great in the race. I mean, if she wasn’t, I wouldn’t bet her there. But it’s hard to pass on the chance to race for that kind of money on your home grass.”
Zip started third in her career debut about a year ago before graduating from the second and asked against Maiden Special Weight Company. She ended her first -year campaign by conquering the James & Eleanor Casey Memorial for youth fillings bred by the state.
She returned six months later to conquer her second-year debut and then recovered from a second place against reimbursement enemies to achieve a sharp score in the Sylvia-Bishop as the 3-10 favorite with regular pilot Arnaldo Bocachica on board.

“Her last race was great and she came out perfectly and she has been doing great since then,” Runco said. “I know there’s some good ones, but if she runs her race, I think she will do well.”
The oak is disputed at the two-degree distance of seven Furlongs. ZIP’s experience starts racet on the bullring under the lights, and her flawless 3-out-3 record during the trip, both of her should be on Friday. None of her rivals has previously raced in Charles Town.
“She has always worn as if she would be a little better to pop up two,” said Runco. “Both of her two stakes win here went seven Furlongs and two turns, so the distance fits perfectly with her … For that kind of money we thought we would give it a chance, and I think she will run well there.”
Runco Saddled Researcher to win the first two editions of the Charles Town Classic. Later he saddled West Virginia-Breds Muad’dib and Coastal Mission to finish second and fourth in the characteristic event of the track respectively.
The Oaks have also seen some runners bred by the state. Late Night Pow Wow, trained by Javier Contreras, prevailed in the renewal of 2018, while both her entire sister at night Pow Wow (Cynthia McKee) and Parisian Diva (Stacey Viands) achieved fourth place in fourth place.
As is generally the case for the local conditioner, Runco will make frequent trips to the Paddock for the extensive 13-race program that starts at 5 pm, two hours earlier than normal. In total, Runco will send nine runners in six different races. His One-Turn Sprint specialists Duncan Idaho and Penguin Power will end up in the last enchantment of $ 40,000 for Staatsbrassen. Much later Runaldo, Muad’dib and Social Chic meet in the $ 75,000 Frank Gall Memorial, which serves as a sleeping cap.
The Gall also includes the younger full brother Pascaline of Social Chic, while full brothers and sisters Duncan Idaho, Muad’dib and at night Pow Wow will all look for victories in three different events on the map.
At one point on the Friday card, Runco Stagices will probably enable him to darken the $ 70 million plateau in career income -he is around $ 60,000 shy. He is also 139 victories removed from reaching 5,000 winners, a milestone that he could realistically reach in the fall of 2026.
