Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has announced the start of sales of the locally assembled Hyundai Staria, the first CKD model in the HMY era. The MPV rolls off the production line at Sime Motors’ Inokom factory in Kulim, Kedah.

“The start of local production for the Hyundai Staria is more than just a production achievement. It represents Hyundai’s confidence in Malaysia as a key market and a growing hub for future assembly,” said HMY president Eric Lee.

HMY says the investment in local assembly and production facilities underlines the company’s determination to plant deep roots and make a meaningful contribution to the local economy. “HMY is also committed to promoting stronger supply chains and supporting the country’s industrial ecosystem. The brand is positioning itself not only as a mobility provider, but also as a long-term partner in Malaysia’s economic development journey,” it added.

“When we founded HMY, we made a bold statement that we are ‘Here to Stay’. And staying here means stability, trust and a long-term presence in Malaysia. It means investing in local manufacturing, working hand-in-hand with our partners and the government, and most importantly, delivering on the promises we have made – while setting new ones for the future,” said HMY MD Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen.

“From humble beginnings, we have grown to become a trusted assembly partner within Hyundai’s global network. Every vehicle produced here is manufactured with precision and care and in full compliance with Hyundai’s global standards, powered entirely by 100% Malaysian talent,” said Sui Keng Huat, MD of Inokom.

The Staria, Hyundai’s best seller in Malaysia, is the obvious choice as HMY’s first CKD model. What’s next? HMY promised “three new models in the SUV and MPV categories” when it came in, and the company debuted the Staria, Tucson and Santa Fe in July, so it’s clear which SUVs are eligible for CKD. Great cars with striking looks – will local assembly get the duo an even more competitive price?

Anyway, the CKD Staria costs between RM179,888 and RM267,888, which is the same as the CBU imported units that HMY launched earlier this year. But there is an end-of-year campaign that gives eight free service (parts and labor) or a cash reward of RM6,000. There is also an additional offer of RM5,000 on selected variants, up to RM2,000 in myHyundaiRewards lifestyle vouchers or a bonus of RM1,500, free accessories and an insurance upgrade.

You can now get the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel MPV in Jet Black, Snow Flake White Pearl, Meteor Gray or Stormy Sea. These are the same four colors as on the last CKD Hyundai in Malaysia, the pre-HMY Santa Fe TM facelift. Jet Black must replace the CBU car’s Abyss Black Pearl, while Snow Flake White Pearl must take over from Creamy White.

Choose from the variants Style with 10 seats, Prime with 10 seats, Prestige with 10 seats and Prestige with 7 seats. Full details and specs of the latest Staria here.
