A fear is the side effect of the drugs of heart problems with long -term use, so every day is ‘a gamble’.
Advocacy and dealing with a life -changing diagnosis
Her symptoms fluctuate and she is still looking for a job that can be flexible for her to manage her flare -up, together with work responsibilities.
“They are not all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it means that I got through, and not that I got the prize at the end. I got through it. I went to the interview,” she says about a personal interview that was not going well because of her symptoms. “I showed up. I gave it all. That is what is important, because if I concentrate on the rest, I will beat myself up for things that I can’t control.”
Some people with gastropares have a food tube to be fed, but Vanessa has been successful that it will be vegan (she can no longer digest meat or lactose and simply no longer no more choices).
What is the most important thing is trying to help others and create awareness.
“I want to see more people understand what it is about. I want to see more recognition and more treatment options,” she says, the emphasis on the need for public understanding.
“If you said to someone:” I can’t run a marathon because I don’t feel right because I just completed chemotherapy, “people would get it. But if you say:” I can’t do that because I didn’t have food in a few days in a few days, “Why don’t you work out? Why don’t you do this? Why do you don’t have to do this?”
