The defensive stability of Liverpool has long been one of the pillars of their recent success.
In addition to Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté has emerged in recent seasons as a central figure in maintaining the resilience of the Reds at the back.
But with his contract that is now going on his last year, all eyes are focused on Anfield and then, while speculation Wervelt or the French Center-Back will bind his future to Liverpool, or a free transfer will move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2026.
Although Liverpool has made a large contract offer, Konaté has responded and the scales may already be in favor of Madrid.

Liverpool is now confronted with a classic contract dilemma. Loss Konaté for free next summer, or meets requirements that can stretch their wage structure, but hold a defender that has become integral under Arne Slot.
The club seems motivated to prevent them from repeating what happened to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left for Real Madrid after his Liverpool contract had passed.
Both Liverpool and Konaté will decide in the coming months.
If Liverpool can bridge the gap, financially, professional and in vision, then there is still a strong thing for him that stays with the club, but it looks very unlikely.
