Liverpool and Bournemouth started the new Premier League season in Anfield, but prior to the kick-off, a tribute were paid to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva after their tragic death.
It is the first competitive match in Anfield that Liverpool has played since the death of Jota, and a tribute has been planned. And they were performed prior to the kick -off, with an emotional interpretation of the famous national anthem of the club: you will never walk alone.

During this countless banners were shown at the head end and one of them had a message for Jota’s family. His wife Rute and their children are present in Anfield, and the message from Liverpool supporters was clear: Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda – Anfield will always be your house. You will never walk alone.
After this, a minute of silence was observed, at what point was shown of DJ20 and AS30, with regard to the shirt numbers that the two brothers wore during the 2024-25 season in their respective clubs.
It is understandable that there was a lot of emotional in Liverpool in the summer after Jota’s tragic death, and there would have been many tears in Anfield during this tribute. Arne Slot and his players would have felt it too, but their attention would be quickly used to Bournemouth.
Liverpool hopes to pay a further tribute to Jota and Silva by winning the victory against Bournemouth. There is a lot of pressure on the ruling champions to defend their crown after making a number of controversial signing sessions this summer and Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike, and the newest addition came to the club’s arrival prior to the club.
