FRIDAY FRIGHT STRACT

“They got us over the line”: Lions -coach Chris Fagan praises the Ashcroft brothers

Chris Fagan spoke with Fox Footy after the game and he was a relieved man after the victory.

“We still had 10 shots and we won with 10 points,” said Fagan.

“I thought we generally played well, but they (the Bulldogs) kicked almost everything and we slaughtered a few”.

Fagan praised the defensive effort on his part to keep the best scoring side of the competition up to only 76 points. But he was especially happy with Levi and Will Ashcroft – although he admitted that Will’s ultimate goal did not call the relief.

“It didn’t matter, we knew we had it (once he had taken the mark), but the Ashcrofts had five, right? They brought us over the line.”

Despite the victory, Fagan said that there was “a little bit to do” for his team.

“We need a few more victories to be comfortable, we have reached the final.”

Huge night for rhylee west

If someone would say before the game that the Bulldogs would have a forward kick four, chances are that you would have chosen Aaron Naughton or Sam Darcy to be the one.

They had three goals between them (which was perhaps part of the problem), but the four goal performance of Rhylee West were a huge night.

He almost helped to get the bulldogs at home – his team may hope that he will do a few repeated performances in the coming weeks.

Next four for Brisbane

  • RD 20: US Gold Coast (Carrara)
  • RD 21: US Collingwood (MCG)
  • RD 23: VS Fremantle (Perth Stadium)

It is a very good thing for the lions they hung on, because there are no easy games on the schedule.

A few losses in these four and Brisbane could glide from the top two (or four).

Next four for the bulldogs

  • RD 20: VS Essendon (Docklands)
  • RD 21: US GWS (Docklands)
  • RD 22: VS Melbourne (MCG)
  • RD 23: US West Coast (Docklands)

This is not over for the bulldogs – all these upcoming games are winning. But it’s hard to see them run the table when they continue to miss the victories against the top eight.

The GWS game is now absolutely crucial.

That was a close one

Phew! Onya Charlie, Lions Flop over the line, albeit with a great style at the end 🙂

– Big Ben

I hear you, Big Ben!

They almost got out of it, but five goals from the Ashcroft brothers make a big difference, right?

Well done for Brisbane, and commises on the Bulldogs.

Here is the ladder now

FT: Brisbane 12.14 (86) beats Western Bulldogs 12.4 (76)

The siren sounds and the lions are full – but that was close!

The home team kicked down and will be marked ashcroft to close the deal.

He let the clock run down and then kicked the goal!

That margin of 10 points does not tell the full story – but it comes down to Brisbane being able to do it and the Bulldogs fails again.

Bulldogs -target it brings it within four points!

Oh my Lord.

The bulldogs had no time anymore, the ball moved forward in a crazy way, and somehow Rhylee West comes to the ball and hangs.

And he kicks it out from 40.

We still have a minute to go and four points the difference.

Strap yourself in it!

A long review gives a point to Brisbane

The lions went ahead, Josh Dunkley needed the target and it went on for a rear – or right?

After an assessment that lasted for centuries, they decided that it did.

Time on, lions against 10.

Time ticks the visitors

Another huge moment, because the Lions get a clearing kick and is marked this time.

Bailey Dale is the goal – or about the goal – and he gives 50 away!

The lions go into attacks and the clock taps.

Lions give a goal away – and we are on!

Oh dear, what a moment that was for the lions.

They were under pressure in defensive 50, and Darcy Gardiner goes for the clearing staircase – but he immediately taps Marcus Bontempelli!

And De Bont kicks the goal!

We are back to nine points, less than six to go.

Both subs have been used

The Bulldogs brought Laitham Vandermeer a fair for Caleb Poulter, now Bruce Reville is on his way to the Lions with Sam Marshall.

Joel Freijah keeps the bulldogs alive

There is still time!

The dogs run forward and a tick falls from a game to Joel Freijah. His Snap continues!

It is 15 points the difference. Are we here?

Kai Lohmann kicks a vital goal for Brisbane

The home team finally puts it together.

The lions kick the hotspot, and Kai Lohmann times his run perfect. That was a great package!

He goes back and kicks the goal, and Brisbane leads with 21 points, but there are still eight and half a minute on the clock.

Eric Hipwood misses everything for the lions

The lions kick off the lights – in the worst way!

They had so many opportunities tonight, but kicking was rough.

Eric Hipwood took a stamp there after a ball kicked the deck.

The crowd was expected, but the hipwood kick did not come close to the goals.

Will they be punished for these misses?

Bulldogs’ James O’Donnell Hinken

That’s not good.

A competition in the back of the Bulldogs has rough consequences, while Bailey Dale Kai Lohmann pushes to James O’Donnell.

O’Donnell’s ankle has been poorly rolled and he leaves. Let’s hope it’s not serious.

Naughton’s kick for the goal is declining

Well, that could have been something!

Aaron Naughton took a second digit in a few minutes – he had the shot from the front right.

But his kick! It not only kicked the belly of the ball, the kick went back both and over 50. The lions were cleared … That was a big chance.

Aaron Naughton gets the vital goal for visitors

And here we go!

The bulldogs answer with a movement through the left wing.

A staircase of the left pocket is taken by Aaron Naughton close to the goal – that was not a great look for the Lions defense.

Naughton kicks it and the management is back to just 14.

A lot of time to go!

Cam Rayner misses a big chance

Where is this game going?

The lions had a big chance to clear it away, with Cam Rayner marking in the pocket. It was not that difficult and you would support him to kick it, but the shot was wide.

The lead is 20 points, but this could have been so much more.
