Young Premier League stars are among the chosen few, likely to get a confidence boost from being recognized by someone widely regarded as the GOAT.
Liverpool’s 17-year-old talent Rio Ngumoha is on Messi’s list, alongside Chelsea’s midfield talent Andrey Santos.
Another Chelsea player received recognition from the Inter Miami icon; Kendry Paez, currently on loan to Strasbourg, is also there.
Adding to the Premier League names, Brighton’s German midfielder Brajan Gruda has been identified as one of the top young players.
Messi’s selections include Porto’s Rodrigo Mora, Ajax’s Belgian striker Mika Gods, Coo’s Nico Paz and Rnene’s teenage talent Kader Meite.
Among female athletes, Messi spotlighted Lyon’s Lily Yohannes and Barcelona’s Clara Serrajordi as future stars.
This isn’t the first time Messi has highlighted emerging talent, although his previous choices have not always proven accurate.
In 2015, he named ten players who ultimately failed to live up to expectations.
Bentiegna Insurance, Marcos Lopes, Kenedy, Cornet Maxwel, Jeremy Boga, James Wilson, Timo Werner, Gysa Zardes, Khiry Shelton and Aleksey Miranchuk.
At the age of 38, Messi revealed this week that the Lionel Messi Cup will debut in Miami in December, with eight teams under the age of 16.
Chelsea and Manchester City will participate, along with Barcelona, āāNewell’s Old Boys, Inter Milan, River Plate, Atletico Madrid and Inter Miami.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘Happy to finally share this with you.
āIn December, Miami will host a very special youth soccer tournament featuring some of the best clubs from around the world.
āThe future of the game will be on full display, and it will be more than just competitions; we have a fantastic few days planned with many other exciting activities.
‘This is about the next generation. I hope you like it!’
