Limoges | Kalinina wins the last WTA 125 title of the year

Former world number 25 Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine celebrated her comeback after a six-month absence on Sunday with a title win at the final WTA 125 tournament of 2025 in Limoges, lifting the trophy she also lifted in 2022.

Kalinina played her first event since her retirement due to a right arm injury against Iryna Shymanovich in the first round of the Bari WTA 125 in early June.

As a result, her ranking had dropped from number 96 to number 155 last week, and her title run in Limoges saw her rise 28 places back to number 127.

Kalinina’s title streak included victories over 4 consecutive Top 100-ranked seeds, Britain’s Sonay Kartal, the 4th seed, No. 5 Alycia Parks of the US, top seed Cristina Bucsa of Spain and the No. 2 seed of France, Elsa Jacquemot.

Bucsa and Jacquemot were Limoges champions and runners-up respectively in 2023, and both are at a career high point this week.

Semi-finalist Bucsa rises three spots to a new career high of No. 51, while Jacquemot’s second WTA 125 final of the year, her third overall, also lifts her three spots to No. 56, matching her previous high.

Elsewhere, former number 45 Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany rises 16 places to number 154 after reaching her second consecutive WTA 125 semi-final in Limoges.

Limoges doubles champions Zhang Shuai & Cristina Bucsa pose with finalists Elsa Jacquemot & Jessika Ponchet after a dominant win in the final of the last WTA 125 of the year.
