Life is Strange: Reunion story details are leaking as release date is confirmed

The surprise was already spoiled, but Square Enix has announced a new Life Is Strange sequel, featuring both Max and Chloe from the first game.

As we said at the time, age rating board leaks are almost always true because they are official sources and they have no reason to lie about anything. However, they often reveal a game’s existence before it was intended, as happened with Life Is Strange: Reunion.

Unusually, the leak via the PEGI website revealed not only that Life is Strange: Reunion is real, but also the basis of the story, with the return of Max’s friend and potential love interest, Chloe, who was controversially left out of the last game, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.

The whole Double Exposure went down like a lead balloon, so it’s quite a surprise that there’s even a new game, but Square Enix has confirmed that Reunion is real and it’s coming out on March 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Reunion is being redeveloped by Deck Nine, which has previously done good work with the series after original creator Dontnod left. Why Double Exposure turned out so poorly remains a mystery, but this one released so soon after suggests there wouldn’t have been much time to change their approach.

The obvious problem with bringing Chloe back is that depending on the choices you made in the original game, she may or may not have died, but Reunion seems to involve parallel universes and Chloe dreams of her alternate fate.

Meanwhile, Double Exposure’s Caledon University is in danger of being engulfed by a cataclysmic inferno, similar to the way Arcadia Bay was destroyed (or not destroyed) in the original.

Max has a more powerful version of her time rewind power, which can be used at any time and allows her to stay in the past via Polaroids she takes. Meanwhile, Chloe has hair contradiction super strength, allowing her to verbally overpower anyone she talks to.

Max will be voiced by regular Hannah Telle, while Chloe’s actress will be Rhianna DeVries from Before The Storm, instead of Ashly Burch from the first game. That’s fine with us, as we actually preferred DeVries’ performance.

Just hours after the game was officially announced, rumors about the game immediately started leaking, reportedly through the boyfriend of a disgruntled former employee at Deck Nine. That part is at least believable, since a lot of staff was laid off last year, to the point where it’s a surprise that the studio still exists, especially considering the failure of Double Exposure.

For what it’s worth, the rumor suggests that Chloe will also get the ability to freeze time and that many of the game’s decisions revolve around whether you agree with the main villain or not – although who the villain is and what they want is not revealed.

There are some more details if you read the entire Reddit post, although the leaker doesn’t seem familiar with the original game, so some of their information may have been misinterpreted.

Considering the game’s release is just two months away, it won’t be long before we know for sure what’s going on, but after Double Exposure, this is almost certainly the last chance for the franchise to find its feet again.
