Do you know a talented young player aged 8 to 11 who has the potential to represent England one day?
In recent months, since the first England, trial event hopes, in which players were mainly recruited from the U10-13 National Championships, the Performance Coaching team has received many videos and e-mails from coaches and parents who want to emphasize the skills of their players.
We have therefore made a process for information and supporting videos that must be submitted to the performance team for consideration.
The online form is organized on the England hopes on the Talent Recruitment page on this website.
Coaches, parents or other people can send us information about a talented player, including their age, club, how long they practice for every week, their playing style and their performance and expectations.
Everyone who completes the form is also asked to send supporting video via the platform for sharing files. The videos must show:
- One match played against another child in the last three months (practice match at Club is suitable)
- FH and BH Drive and Topspin (played in the block of a coach)
- Two x movement exercises (one fixed and an irregular thing about your choice – played in the block or multiball of a coach)
- Service, short and long (10 serves to be carried out separately, followed by 10 serving that are performed in a rally situation).
Applications will be assessed by the Talent Team on four points in the year and an outcome will be decided on a case-by-case basis that a local Pathway Development Center (PDC) will be informed about the player, they can be placed on a list for a HOPS plow test, or there are no suitable actions at that time.
Head of Pathway Development, Emma Vickers, said: “It can be easy to miss talent, especially because it is crucial that players are identified on a path in table tennis with 10 years old.
“Our new initiative includes filling in a short form that contains some details about the player and then requires that the player is being filmed with some identified exercises.
“We would like to identify talent in as many ways as we can, and this is a different method at our disposal that we hope will help us to detect some potential gems.”
