Leeds United suffered a huge injury blow ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League at Elland Road on Wednesday.

Daniel James has injured his hamstring tendon, which will sideline him for at least two months. His absence could be extended if he has to undergo surgery to correct the problem.

Manager Daniel Farke confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that the winger will miss the visit of the Blues this week and throughout the festive period.

“It is disappointing news,” said the German. “His hamstring tendon is injured, so he will be sidelined for the next eight weeks. We have to expect that it could at least get worse with surgery.”

“It’s tough. He’s fought so hard to get back to his best shape. I’ve never seen him so disciplined with training and then with diet, etc.”

“He was a bit heartbroken, but he could have had worse injuries.”

Farke added: “James is one of the fastest players in Britain. So these players are slightly more at risk of injuries like that. It’s the tendon, a bit of a physical weakness. I was quite happy that he played two games for Wales. A different strain compared to Man City away.”

Asked if James’ injury will have any impact on their plans for the January transfer window, he replied: “If you have this injury it will obviously impact this plan for January. We are fully focused on the weeks and games ahead.”
