YONKER, NY.– Joe Lee and Yogi Sheridan both joined forces with pocket trips to win their respective $13,100 harness racing division of the North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trot at Yonkers Raceway on Thursday evening (October 23).
Lee captured the first division with a final ride from Kameran Hanover in a 2:00.2 mile. He was tracking speeds of :28.3 and :59.2, cut by post-8 starter Wild Bill Kelso (driven by John Calabrese) until he encountered a shuffle in the second turn as Muskingum (Yogi Sheridan) jumped to the lead. Kameran Hanover flew out to overtake Wild Bill Kelso as he tired of the race, while Muskingum shot three lengths clear to three-quarters in 1:29.1. Lee steadily reduced the leader’s advantage through the final turn and into the stretch to record a winning neckline with Awol Hanover (Steven Reisenweaver), the longest shot on the board at 73-1, closing for third place. I’m Out (Joe Faraldo), the 5-2 favorite, came from last to fourth.
CAMERA HANNOVER REPEAT
Jody Riedel trains Kameran Hanover, an 11-year-old stallion owned by Donato Hanover, for owner Charalambos Christoforou. He paid $10.90 to win.
Although he was caught at the finish in the first division, Yogi Sheridan found the winner’s circle in the other division when he sprinted clear with Show The Will for a 1:57.3 victory. Sheridan set his charge behind pylon starter and odds-on favorite Cal Miles N Shell (John Calabrese) as he cruised unimpeded through fractions of :28.1, :58.4 and 1:27.2. When it was time to get out of the bottom corner, Sheridan lifted Show The Will from his stalking spot and sped away from Cal Miles N Shell to record a 3-1/4 length victory. Ima Standup Guy (Joe Faraldo) gave chase in third, another five lengths behind, while Doo Wop Kid (Alan Schwartz) finished fourth.
SHOW THE WILL REPEAT
Izzy Estrada trains Show The Will, a 6-year-old gelding by Possess The Will, for owner Estrada Racing LLC. He paid $9.38 to win.
NAADA action resumes next Thursday (October 30) at Yonkers Raceway with the eighth preliminary round of the club’s fall trotting series. The post time for the first race at Yonkers is 6:45 PM (EDT).
