Dricus du Plessis has been quiet after UFC Vancouver, and one winner on the card thinks he knows why.
Brendan Allen stepped up on short notice to fight Reinier de Ridder in the main event of UFC Vancouver at Rogers Arena. Allen replaced the injured Anthony Hernandez. “All In” took advantage of his opportunity and forced De Ridder to stop on his stool before the start of the fifth round.
During an interview with MMAJunkie.comAllen, who has been feuding with du Plessis in recent months, noticed the former UFC middleweight champion was quiet after his latest win.
“Dricus always has something to say when I lose because he knows I have a super tough test and I can probably beat him,” Allen told MMA Junkie. “Obviously he’s a fighter, so he’s going to think he’s going to beat me, but he knows it’s a tough test. It’s easy to say I’m losing when you know you’re not going to fight me next time, but now it seems like it could happen. When I was really close to a big winning streak and it was possible, he was super quiet as a mouth in church.”
“Now you don’t hear from him, but what can you really say? He was literally just dominated. No close fight. No moments. Nothing like that. You were dominated for 25 minutes. I’ll be nice and say you were dominated for 23.5 minutes. What can you really say? To me that’s a big word: dominated. To me that’s a very big word. It has a lot of weight. That means you didn’t do anything. You didn’t really have anything going for it. the other.” That’s what happened, and you were supposed to be the champion and you got dominated? That shouldn’t happen at that level.”
Allen has propelled himself into the top five of the UFC’s middleweight division. He may be in for a big fight that would bring him closer to a title shot.
Allen is coming off a loss to the most likely No. 1 contender, Nassourdine Imavov. Prior to UFC Vancouver, Allen said Newsweek Sports that he expected Imavov to get a shot at Khamzat Chimaev regardless of the outcome of his fight with the Knight.
