Leap To Fame returns with a vengeance

Australia’s leading pacer Leap To Fame (Bettors Delight) redeemed himself with a strong win at the Mimosa Homes Free For All in Melton on Saturday evening.

Leap To Fame had never lost more than two races in a row and this impressive record was on the line after his third-place finish in last week’s Victoria Cup. This had led to suggestions that he would not travel to Christchurch to take his place in the New Zealand Cup in November.

Fortunately, Leap To Fame thrives on racing and when trainer Grant Dixon declared all was well with the star, he accepted at Melton.

And Leap To Fame certainly made that known as he stormed out of the mobile gate to line up next to leader Bulletproof Boy and crossed into the lead shortly after. His only real danger, Catch A Wave, was taken back to the back of the field.

LEAP TO FAME OCTOBER 25 REPEAT

From then on, Dixon kept Leap to Fame in the lead

“He seemed good. He likes a bit of distance and likes to be at the front, but he crossed the line. I’ll have a chat with Kevin and Kay (Seymour) and Trista. On Monday we’ll do a blood test to find out if his blood levels remain good after that run. And then we’ll make the final decision.”

“His heart monitor is normal where we like it. He felt good and the track, despite having a little water on it, was as firm as before.”

“It’s always a relief when he wins some kind of relief and then is happy with it.”

“All systems go for New Zealand, but the most important thing is how he steps up. He felt the best this week, the whole time he was here. So hopefully it continues to go from there.”

The most pleasing aspect of Leap To Fame’s victory was his final 400 meters in 26.2 seconds with a total mileage of 1.52.6.

If all goes well, it seems likely that Leap To Fame will head to New Zealand and try to win the race he has yet to succeed in.
