Leafs lineup news: Woll to start against Predators, power play units will change
Woll has posted a 5-3-1 record this season with a .927 save percentage. Dennis Hildeby will act as Woll’s backup.
“We had power play opportunities, the power play wasn’t good, it has to be a lot better. To me, they played with more passion than we did tonight. That’s what it comes down to. It seemed like they had a lot more urgency in their game, a lot more passion in their game, that’s the difference.”
Matias Maccelli could potentially re-enter the lineup, although based on Friday’s practice lines, he appears to be back in line for a healthy clean sheet. Maccelli has not played in December and Berube indicated he is aiming to get the winger back into the lineup soon.
Berube also stated that the top line of Matthew Knies, Auston Matthews and William Nylander wasn’t nearly good enough after Thursday’s loss. Matthews and Nylander failed to play five-on-five, and their battle has only intensified in December. Nylander hasn’t scored since Nov. 26 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It will be interesting to see if Berube splits Matthews and Nylander, or splits Matthews from Knies, a pair stapled together.
