When conversations about Lauri Markkanen in NBA circles arise, they tend to turn around the Utah jazz that their franchise player exchange. Utah is located in the middle of a long -term rebuild that seems to estimate more to prioritize an advantage over immediate value.
Just when it seemed as if the idea of an exchange was too fascinating to ignore, however, Markkans reminded himself to Utah why it is so hard to say goodbye.
Markkanen, 28, is currently preparing to represent Finland in Eurobasket. That resulted in the court in a preparation match against Belgium – in which he showed the skills that Utah convinced to sign him for a contract of $ 195 million.
Markkanen decimated Belgium and scored a national team career-high 48 points on 17-of-24 shooting from the field and a 7-of-13 mark from outside the bow.

Utah is in a polarizing position with three Bigs who needed a considerable playing time, but Markkans just reminded the skeptics why he was the team’s go-to player.
Lauri Markkanen drops 48 points in the preparation of Eurobasket
Markkans that dominate in Europe is a promising development that will probably have jazz fans on the edge of their seats. He experienced an unfortunate dip in form in 2024-25, placing his lowest score average since 2021-22 and the worst field target percentage of his career.
However, injuries played an important role in the struggles of Markkanen, so that optimistic viewers think if he can return to an All-Star level when he is healthy.
After all, it was not so long ago that Markkans strengthened its place as one of the most sought after attackers in the NBA. He was appointed as the All-Star team and won the most improved player prize in 2022-23, not least because of career-best averages of 25.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
Markkanen unfortunately missed 27 games in 2023-24, but he was productive when he was healthy on 23.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per match .480/.399/.899 shooting.
The outburst of Markkans against Belgium has provided insight into how viable a return to form can be. His down year is contextualized by the fact that he fights against injuries in a team that won only 17 games – factors that are not exactly conducive to individual success.
In 2025-26, however, the Jazz will roll out a more experienced version of last year’s schedule with important additions such as Ace Bailey, Walter Clayton Jr. And Georges Niang who strengthen the rotation.
The question that Utah is confronted with is whether the trio of Markkanen, Kyle Filipowski and Walker Kessler can co -exist. It is also worth wondering if Jusuf Nurkic will still be on the Roster as soon as the regular season of 2025-26 starts.
In the meantime, Jazz fans have every reason to be enthusiastic about Markkans who may return to an All-Star play level after he had seen him fall 48 points on Belgium.
