~ The home side start their campaign with a huge win; the goalkeepers meet expectations and keep a clean slate ~
Chennai, November 28, 2025: The Indian junior men’s hockey team got off to a storming start with a 7-0 win against Chile in their first Pool B match here at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025, which witnessed a grand opening ceremony at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Egmore, Chennai on Friday. Goals for India were scored by Rosan Kujur (16′, 21′), Dilraj Singh (25′, 34′), Ajeet Yadav (35′), Anmol Ekka (48′) and Rohit (59′). Meanwhile, Indian goalkeepers Bikramjeet Singh and Prince Deep Singh did exceptionally well to keep a clean sheet.
It was a nerve-wracking start to the first quarter, with the visitors showing plenty of promise and holding their own against a more experienced Indian side. They did not allow India any easy chances even though Dilraj Singh, the home side’s stylish striker, made some ambitious forays into the circle. While there was no real breakthrough in the first quarter despite achieving a PC in the 15th minute, India started the second quarter on a bold note with a quick-fire goal in the 16th minute.e minute.

It was Rosan Kujur who scored this one with ease and got the Chennai crowd on their feet, roaring for the hosts. They doubled the lead almost immediately when Rosan struck again in the 21st minute. A brilliant ball played from the halfway line which was well collected by Rosan who was completely unmarked. Leading 2-0, India were in complete control of the match and had broken away from the Chilean resistance they showed in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Dilraj Singh scored one in 25e minute to give India a solid 3-0 lead before entering the third quarter. India’s fourth goal came in the 34e minute where Ankit Pal did extremely well to beat three Chilean defenders and find Dilraj in the circle. Already in the mood to score goals, Dilraj positioned himself back with a quick turn and found a clean opening to find the net. In the very next minute, Ajeet Yadav scored a brilliant goal to make it 5-0, leaving Chile with no chance to get back into the match.
A few more Indian names were on the scoresheet in the final quarter, with Anmol Ekka scoring from a PC. It was Manmeet Singh who created the PC and found the Chilean defender’s foot, and Ekka did the rest of the work with an astonishing move towards the right corner. The drama didn’t end there as India scored their seventh goal in the 59e minute. This time it was India Colts Captain Rohit who scored from a penalty shot and the team recorded a huge 7-0 win.
