Table Tennis England Coach Developer, Steve Brunskill, continues his journey to visit clubs across the country and share coaching wisdom, as supporting coaches means better experiences for players and stronger clubs for the future, further driving the growth of the game and performance.
Britannia TTC – Small space and big energy
Tucked away in an old wartime building, Britannia Table Tennis Club in Ipswich may not win any awards for looks, but step inside and you’ll find one of the most intense training environments around!
Eight tightly packed tables, non-stop focus and a culture of hard work ensure that every ball counts. Led by coach To go KwakkelsteinHis calm leadership, no shouting approach provides a pure drive and session with great discipline from a group who clearly love what they do.
From the moment the players arrived it was clear that this club runs like a family. A warm welcome, smiles and respect filled the room, along with a serious commitment to improvement. The session was well organised: registrations ready, warm-ups led by the players themselves and exercises that balanced skill, intensity and fun. Aad has created a culture where players take ownership, remain disciplined and genuinely enjoy the process.
Aad’s session was well structured and goal-oriented, from footwork ladders to top table games, everything had a purpose. The atmosphere provided a perfect balance between focus and fun, with players pushing and supporting each other.
By the end, everyone left tired, smiling and eager for the next session. It is no surprise that Britannia is producing such motivated and versatile young players, and that the coaching has been well executed.

Cramlington TTC – A club with spirit
Up in Northumberland, Cramlington Table Tennis Club lives with energy and enthusiasm. Ten tables, a full room and players of all ages and levels, it was buzzing from the first service to the last rally.
The session, led by Duncan Wraighthad structure, flow and a sense of fun. It’s a brilliant example of a community club providing a space where everyone can train, compete and belong.
Despite describing himself as a session organizer and not a coach, Duncan’s execution and design were spot on. His demonstrations were confident and clear, and each exercise progressed cleverly from basic to advanced, mirroring the kind of structure you see in national-level camps, a tribute to the preparation and thought behind each exercise. After a few hours of purposeful play, the session concluded with lively matches at the top table that brought smiles all round.
Duncan’s natural organizational approach and understanding of player development was evident. With this foundation and the club’s welcoming, vibrant atmosphere, Cramlington TTC looks poised for even bigger things.
