Lady Gaga sparks a wave of short-stay rentals in Aus capitals – realestate.com.au

Lady Gaga’s return to Australia has accelerated demand for short-term rentals, with bookings soaring in major capitals ahead of her first concerts here in more than a decade.

An Airbnb spokeswoman confirmed that bookings have more than doubled ahead of its Mayhem Ball, which kicks off on Friday, December 5.

There has been a surge in local demand for short-term rentals on the concert dates, with the first venue being Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on December 5, before moving to Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on December 9 and then Sydney’s Accord Stadium on December 12.

“Airbnb searches for Sydney during concert dates are up 178 percent compared to last year,” an Airbnb spokeswoman said.

Searches for accommodation increased by 98 percent around the Brisbane concert date.

“That’s almost double the interest – proof that Australians love Gaga,” she said.

Fans from as far afield as Britain are among those making the pilgrimage to Australian state capitals for the highly anticipated concerts, Airbnb data shows.

“Domestic fans will be taking a road trip from Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Newcastle, Perth, Illawarra, Dubbo and Far South Coast NSW.”

“International fans travel in from the UK, New Zealand, USA, South Korea, New Caledonia, Germany, France, Singapore, Chile and Spain – a truly global stage for Mother Monster.”

Fans heading to Melbourne are in luck: About 300 homes available appear in the Marvel Stadium area search on the map, priced from just over $110 for a one-bed unit at Thornbury for the night to more than $960 for a full three-bed unit at Southbank.

In Brisbane, there are more than 300 properties available in the suburbs not far from Suncorp Stadium, with prices ranging from $84 for a one-bedroom in Newmarket to more than $370 for a one-bedroom apartment at the Star Casino on Queens Wharf in the CBD.

Properties in Sydney range from $59 for a private room in a house in Canley Heights to $415 for an entire one-bedroom unit in Burwood, with more than 300 properties shown as available within the map zone.
