Los Angeles will be the first city to take two stadiums in an Olympic opening ceremony when it organizes the competitions in 2028.

Both the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Sofi Stadium are organizing the event on July 14, 2028, the organizers of LA28 confirmed.

The Coliseum, which was used at the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games, also organizes the final ceremony on July 30 and will be the first location to hold events in three games.

The Sofi Stadium, the home of NFL -the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, will organize the Paralympics Opening Ceremony on 15 August with the event that will be closed in the Coliseum on 27 August.

“The selected locations for the 2028 opening and closing ceremonies will emphasize the rich sports history of Los Angeles and the advanced future, with the very best that LA has to offer on the world stage,” said LA28 chairman Casey Wasserman.

“These two extraordinary locations will create an unforgettable experience that welcomes fans from all over the world in an Olympic and Paralympic Games like never before and conclude what will go off as one of the most collapsable games in history.”

Details of the opening ceremony, including how the two stadiums will be used, still have to be confirmed.

The Coliseum, which is home to the collegiate American football side, the USC Trojans, will hold the track and field events during the first week at the Olympic Games.

The Sofi Stadium will organize the swimming competitions in week two.

A number of sports have been restored to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles after an absence of the matches, including Cricket, Lacrosse and Squash, while flag football will make its debut.
