At least one million tickets for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles will cost $28.
Organizers confirmed the prizes when they announced that fans can register their interest in attending the Games from next month.
From January 14, fans can participate in a random draw for all Olympic sports. Those selected will be given a time slot in April to purchase tickets.
The announcement by LA28 organizers comes amid criticism over ticket prices for next year’s World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada.
Group stage tickets for the 2026 World Cup will be up to three times more expensive than those for the previous tournament in Qatar in 2022, while the cheapest ticket for the final will cost £3,119.
Tickets for every sport at the 2028 Olympics will be available for $28, while a third of tickets for the event will cost “less than $100.”
“That’s not just lip service to a few tickets in the corner of a room, but a meaningful number of tickets,” said LA28 chief Allison Katz-Mayfield.
“We’re looking at at least a million tickets for $28.”
Tickets for the 2024 Paris Olympics started from 24 euros (£20).
The cheapest ticket for England’s opening match against Croatia next June will cost £198, while Scotland’s opener against Haiti will cost £134.
Fan group Football Supporters Europe has said it is “astonished” by FIFA’s pricing strategy, and called for ticket sales to be “immediately halted”.
FIFA told BBC Sport last Friday that it had received five million requests for World Cup tickets within 24 hours from fans from more than 200 countries.
Katz-Mayfield called LA28’s random drawing process “the fairest way to ensure that the widest possible number of people can access tickets and that no one is advantaged or disadvantaged.”
“It doesn’t matter when you go in, whether you’re the first person or the last person, you have the same opportunity,” she added.
Registration for tickets for the 2029 Olympic Games is open until March 18 and there is no benefit to early registration.
No purchase or payment is required to register for the draw.
