Goals from Captain Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise deserved a 2-0 win over Germany in Stuttgart, a success that means that they finish third in the Nations League of this season.

Hosts of the final of the Nations League, Germany wanted to jump back from the defeat in the last four against Portugal, but fell at the back of peace after Mbappe had checked and finished well to score his 50th international goal.

Germany thought they were leveled by Deniz Undav early in the second half, but the finish of the VFB Stuttgart Forward was excluded after a VAR assessment.

France, however, remained under control and should have made the result more comfortable before Mbappe squat late for Olise to secure third place, with Iberian neighbors Portugal and Spain opposite the final later on Sunday.

The winner of Cristiano Ronaldo ensured that Germany tasted the defeat for the first time since last year’s European Championship on Wednesday.

They started well against a France team that was defeated by Spain in an exciting semi-final, with Florian Wirtz saw a first half slot in the post clip.

However, Mbappe made no mistake after collecting the long pass from Aurelien Tchouameni. The 26-year-old is now only one goal behind Thierry Henry in the top Goalscoring hit lists of France.

Undav’s fine finish apparently recovered parity at the start of the second half, but Niclas Fuellkrug was punished for an error in the structure.

If it had not been for Manuel Neuer and the woodwork, France would have been out of sight for a long time before Bayern Munich’s Olise tapped home to win the victory that ends their season in a high.
