Kyas Hepworth leaves Screen NSW | Television tonight

Head of Screen NSW Kyas Hepworth is leaving to pursue other opportunities.

She is a Bundjalung woman from Tweed Heads and joined from NITV in 2022.

Screen NSW noted in its newsletter that it had driven significant strategic innovation in the sector.

“She led the development of the NSW Screen & Digital Games Strategy, setting clear growth targets, strengthening funding and infrastructure (studio) planning, and placing creatives from First Nations and diverse communities at the center of the state’s screen future. Under her leadership, Screen NSW also reformed and expanded support for the digital games industry, including lowering the threshold for Games Rebate, increasing development investment and improving opportunities for NSW creators to access global markets,” the report said.

“Kyas has transformed the state screen agency during her tenure and recent annual survey results from Screen NSW found that 72% trusted Screen NSW to advocate for the industry’s best interests. Kyas has strengthened the industry’s talent pipelines and inclusion by expanding flagship programs such as Short to Feature Fast Track, the First Nations Screen Fellowship and the inclusive Pathways Development Program, creating meaningful opportunities for emerging and underrepresented practitioners.

“She has also championed targeted development funding in regional and priority communities, while raising NSW’s international profile through key festival and market initiatives. This has supported NSW’s profile as a preferred production and post-VFX location.

“Collectively, these achievements demonstrate a legacy of strategic clarity, inclusive leadership and sector-wide capacity building that has positioned NSW as a national leader in screen and digital games innovation.

Screen NSW is also recruiting for an Executive Director, Screen Development position, which will be announced in the new year.
