Owned and operated by Kevin and Annette Charles and their son Kody, KTC Bloodstock has won the WA Standardbred Breeders’ Association’s Breeder of the Year award in five of the past seven years.
The list of honors of the Hopeland-based establishment reads like a who’s who of hard-driving.
The list includes classics and cup winners Lavra Joe, Wonderful To Fly, Patrickthepiranha, Shock Wave, Lady De La Renta, Water Lou, Double Expresso, Has No Fear, Give Us A Wave, Cabsav, Valedictorian and Belly Up.
KTC Bloodstock is presenting 23 royally bred youngsters – the largest entry from a single supplier – for the Australian Pacing Gold Perth Yearling Sale at Magic Millions on Sunday 1 March.
The consignment consists of 12 colts and 11 fillies and consists of yearlings from 12 individual sires led by Captaintreacherous (4 lots), Bettor’s Delight (2), Sweet Lou (2), Always B Miki (2), Downbytheseaside (3), Art Major and Rock N Roll Heaven.
Be Happy Mach, the 2019 2YO Colt of the Year, is represented by three lots from its second commercial harvest.
Another feature of the design is the offspring of a number of top racing mares. They include WA Oaks and Golden Nugget winner Libertybelle Midfrew, Vicbred champion La Machane, NZ Jewels winner Utmost Delight, APG 2YO Finale winner Leilani Lombo, General Outspoken (WA Gold Bracelet) and Tenniele Erin (WA 2YO Sales Classic).
There are siblings to last season’s outstanding two-year-old filly Wishing Belle, eight-time group winner Wonderful To Fly, standout pacer Lavra Joe, Vicbred champion La Machane, Momentslikethese (QLD Oaks), Victorian group winners La Captain and Glenferrie Blade, Ideal Agent (WA Easter Cup) and Lady Luca (WA Diamond).
The Rock N Roll Heaven colt out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Zara Whitby (Lot 324) is a real highlight according to Annette Charles.
“The three-quarter brother of Lavra Joe (Lot 347) is a large, upright colt, the Foreclosure-Panorama Sunshine (Lot 394) colt is a very beautiful type and the Captaintreacherous-Lady Smack NZ colt (Lot 352) is also a highlight,” said Annette.
“A cheap example that might be worth looking at is the first lot on sale (Lot 301), a Be Happy Mach filly out of Ledecky,” Annette said. “Be Happy Mach won 10 of his 11 starts as a two-year-old and Ledecky had great scope but continued to hurt.”
