Let’s be honest – how often have the oilers ‘fresh started’ behind the couch? From Todd Mclellan to Ken Hitchcock to Dave Tippett to Jay Woodcroftt, coaching turnover became just as familiar as Connor McDavid height points. For years, Edmonton fans watched a rotating door of head coaches, and with every new recruitment the same hope came: perhaps this is the answer.
Now? The oilers have a coach who is the answer.

When Kris Knoblauch took over in November 2023, the team was in free fall. Only three victories in 13 games. Panic in the city. Whisper from wasted prime numbers. From 3–9–1 to the Stanley Cup final in the same season? That kind of turnaround does not happen accidentally. The Flip was not only impressive – it was historic. Knoblauch took over the middle season and went the rest of the road 46–18–5. He led the Oilers on a 16-game heating-The longest profit streak in the history of franchise and the second longest in modern NHL history.

Since taking over behind the bank, Knoblauch has helped guide the oilers to the best regular season record in the NHL. The comeback in the 2024 final was not a coincidence – it was the result of faith, structure and a coach who knows when to let his players play and when they have to step with goal.

Knoblauch does not scream on the couch or throw tantrums in the media. He is a calm, calculated presence, which may be exactly why the oilers are not unraveled when it became difficult. Knoblauch’s stable hand was a determining factor in the remarkable play -off run of the team. In particular, during his first late season, his calm attitude was clear during the high-pressure moments of the Stanley Cup final of 2024, so that the oilers helped their way back from a 3-0 series shortage against the Florida Panthers to force a match 7.

Knoblauch became the third fastest coach in the NHL history to achieve 80 career victories and already has a record of 29-18 after season. That is Elite Company. When The oilers have announced”We trust in Knoblauch.”
Knoblauch enters the last year of his current deal, but general director (GM) Stan Bowman has already said that they want to keep him in the neighborhood. That extension must be a no-brainer.
