Korean Arpa-H to build AI-driven surgical assistant robot

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) in South Korea and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) announced three additional projects under the Korean Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (Arpa-H).

One is an AI-driven assistant robot, which will be designed to perform repetitive tasks to support doctors during operations. Its development is intended to tackle the shortage of surgical staff.

The other two new projects will develop treatment for serious symptoms of infectious diseases and a personalized anti-cancer vaccine.

The Mohw and Khidi are currently looking for partners for these new projects. It is expected that seven ARPA-H projects will be announced next month, June. The Korean government has won a total of 1.2 trillion ($ 830 million) until 2032 for this program reserved.


Bangkok Hospital puts AI-driven vital plates on Kiosk

Bangkok Hospital has unveiled an AI-driven smart mirror for screening of vital plates.

The private hospital recently worked with Access Company to install the Self-Service Kiosk, which does a contactless face scan of 45 seconds to assess vital signs. These include heart rate, respiratory speed, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate variability, atrium fibrillation, stress level and wellness indices.

The smart kiosk is powered by FaceHeart Vitals by Taiwanese company FaceHeart, which has been approved by both food and drug administrations in the United States and Thailand. After a recent pilot, this will be installed in various service areas of the hospital, including the Health Design Center and the International Patient Service Center.

The hospital also revealed its plan to set up temperature -sensitive cameras to add contactless body temperature measurement to the smart mirrors.


Seoul National University Hospital implements RAS from Medtronic

Seoul National University Hospital has added another robot -supported surgery system.

It became the first hospital in South Korea to use Medtronic’s Hugo Ras, which received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in June last year. It was recently used to perform operations on patients with prostate cancer and pancreatic cancer.

The Medtronic system contributes to two existing RAs used in the hospital, a single and a multi-port system by intuitive surgical.


LKCMedicin receives a gift of $ 12 million from AI, Home Health Tech

Nanyang Technological University Singapore recently announced that it received S $ 15 million ($ 11.5 million) from the Private Family Foundation SIM Foundation.

Based on a press release, the gift translational research by Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine supports two areas: AI in medicine and hospital and home care technology. The university said that these research areas are aimed at improving quality assurance access, in particular for the elderly and disadvantaged people, while it is reduced the workload of the hospital.
