Kompany: Bayern will start from scratch despite historic victory in Koln – Football News

Vincent Kompany insisted Bayern Munich will start from scratch again despite making Bundesliga history with the 3-1 win over Cologne on Wednesday.

Kompany watched as Linton gave Maina Köln a deserved lead at RheinEnergieSTADION, but Serge Gnabry restored parity in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time.

From there, the Bundesliga leaders controlled proceedings and went ahead through Kim Min-jae’s header, with Lennart Karl sealing the victory with a fine finish in the 84th minute.

The result maintained their eleven-point lead over Borussia Dortmund in the table, a lead that has never closed at this stage of the season.

Furthermore, Bayern’s 47 points after seventeen Bundesliga matches is the best run in Bundesliga history, matching their own record from 2013/14 under Pep Guardiola.

Their 66 goals this season, meanwhile, is a new record after 17 games, and while Kompany was pleased with the performance, he immediately shifted focus to the next game.

“I did congratulate the boys, but that will be over tomorrow and it is absolutely not a priority for me that we now have this record,” said Kompany.

“We are in the middle of the season and have not won any titles yet. From tomorrow we start the second half and everything starts from scratch.”

Kompany was also able to provide injury updates on Hiroki Ito, Konrad Laimer and Harry Kane, with the trio all taking blows during the win.

Kane appeared to have suffered an ankle injury in the 27th minute but was able to soldier on, while Ito bumped his knee while trying to defend a cross in the first half.

But Laimer’s calf problem could be a problem, especially with Josip Stanisic and Joshua Kimmich both already injured.

“Konny felt something in his calf. We have to wait. We will come back to Munich tomorrow and he will have a scan,” he said.

“The others were able to continue playing. We have a lot of games in a short time.”

“Hopefully Jamal [Musiala] and Phonzy [Davies] will come back soon. And hopefully Konny will do well.”
