KKR appoints former Rajasthan Royals player as fielding coach
KKR in particular has made an appointment Dishant Yagnik as a field coach. Yagnig brings deep experience from the IPL ecosystem. During his playing days, he represented Rajasthan in domestic cricket and featured in 25 IPL matches as a wicketkeeper-batsman between 2011 and 2014. Although his appearances were limited, Yagnik was widely regarded as a diligent professional with a keen technical awareness, especially behind the stumps.
After his retirement from competitive cricket, Yagnik smoothly transitioned into coaching. Over the years he has worked closely with players on agility, catching efficiency, throwing accuracy and the basics of wicketkeeping. His methodical approach and attention to detail earned him respect within the franchises, making his appointment at KKR a natural progression in his coaching career.
Strengthening KKR’s renewed backroom group
At Kolkata Knight Riders, Yagnik will be part of a newly formed and highly experienced support staff. The franchise has invested heavily in building a leadership group dominated by former players who understand the pressures and demands of elite T20 cricket.
The overall lineup is led by the head coach Abishek Nayar, with former West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo act as a mentor. Australia great Shane Watson has been brought in as an assistant coach, while New Zealand is a fast bowler Tim South will oversee the bowling department.
Adding a unique dimension to the setup is Andre Russelwho has taken up the newly created role of Power Coach after confirming his retirement from the IPL as a player. Russell’s continued presence underlines KKR’s commitment to maintaining the franchise’s identity and culture.

Focus on excellence in the field
Yagnik’s appointment highlights KKR’s emphasis on fielding as a decisive factor for T20 success. With margins in the IPL often determined by athletic catches, sharp fielding and quick run-outs, the franchise seems keen to gain a competitive advantage in this department.
Under Yagnik’s leadership, KKR’s fielding unit is expected to focus on fitness, reflex work and game-specific drills tailored to modern T20 demands. His experience as a wicketkeeper is also likely to benefit KKR’s goalkeepers and infielders, especially in improving communication and anticipation.
