Knightsbridge strives to fulfill the promise in Mr. Prospector to come true

When romping in three of the five starts, Knights Bridge has hinted at the promise of becoming a future stakes winner.

The future could now be December 27th Gulfstream Park then Godolphin’s homebred four year old Nyquist Colt enters the $150,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3). He is the 7-5 second choice on the morning line in the eight-horse field, and his chances are likely to be slimmer by post time for the 7-furlong race as the morning line favorite White Abarrio will scratch, said trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. to Gulfstream Park’s publicity.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Knightsbridge ran competitively in his only previous stakes appearance when he finished in a dead heat for third in the Perryville Stakes (G3) in October 2024 to Keeneland. He has run only twice since then, finishing second in a February optional allowance claimant race over a one-turn mile at Gulfstream and winning a comeback race against the optional allowance claimers over 7 furlongs on November 22 at Aqueduct racecourse.

The lightly raced single-turn specialist also ran twice for the Perryville, capturing those starts against lesser competition by a combined margin of 19 1/2 lengths.

Bred by Godolphin from the Bernardini mare Tyburn Brook Knightsbridge is a half-brother of Speakers corner a son of Street feeling who won three races, including the 2022 Carter Handicap (G1).

Junior Alvarado, who has been aboard Knightsbridge for the past four races, now breaks from the inside post with the scratch of White Abarrio, who is now expected to return in next month’s Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1), a race he won earlier this year.

White Abarrio, who hasn’t raced since the summer, was scratched after the parade by a supervising veterinarian minutes before the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) on Nov. 1. Sea. It last flew on December 11.

Abundance co-featured on Saturday

Prior to the Mr. Prospector on Saturday’s card at Gulfstream features the $100,000 Abundantia Stakes for female turf sprinters. The homebred multiple stakes winner from Moyglare Stud Farm Love calls is favored to win the 5-furlong race, with Tyler Gaffalione riding for trainer Miguel Clement.
