Rumors surrounding IPL 2026 deals continue

The day after KL Rahul’s trade news broke, reports now confirm that the India star will not be moving from Delhi Capitals (DC) to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). As with several IPL trade stories in the past, this too seems to be just a rumour. So let’s have a look at KL Rahul IPL 2026 trade news.

In the IPL ecosystem, trade talks often start with strong interest from a franchise but fizzle out soon after, mainly because the other team’s offer is not attractive enough. In the ongoing trading window for IPL 2026, several such talks have already fallen through.

No KL Rahul to KKR

This time the buzz surrounded Washington Sundar and KL Rahul. There were suggestions that Sundar could switch from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Rahul could switch from Delhi Capitals (DC) to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

However, according to a new Cricbuzz report, none of these transactions are happening. Rahul will remain with Delhi Capitals for the time being, putting an end to speculation of a blockbuster swap deal.

For a brief period, the Rahul trade rumor seemed genuine as there was talk of an exchange of Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi, with Sanju Samson also mentioned as part of a complex trade opportunity. Since Rahul and Samson are both goalkeepers with leadership qualities, the link made sense. KKR in particular have been eyeing a goalkeeper-opener for balance.

KKR is hesitant to trade Varun or Rinku

KKR’s main obstacle in pursuing Rahul is their reluctance to release any of their premium players Rinku Singh or Varun Chakravarthy. A trade for someone of Rahul’s stature would almost certainly mean parting ways with one of these stars – a move that Kolkata is unwilling to make.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are in no rush to trade Rahul, especially as he remains a central figure in their leadership and batting plans. A DC source reportedly told Cricbuzz:

“Why should we release our big player?”

This confirms Rahul’s strong position in the DC line-up heading into IPL 2026.

Players have limited say in transactions

While offseason trade speculation dominates social media, the players themselves often have little say in such moves. Franchise decisions and negotiations mainly take place at management level.

Interestingly, similar uncertainty surrounds Sanju Samson’s situation at Rajasthan Royals (RR), with reports suggesting he may or may not stay depending on the eventual trade dynamics.
