The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 2,398 summons for 939 vehicles under the War on Overloaded Commercial Vehicles operation carried out since October 14. Named has reported.
The department stated that 14 vehicles were seized for various violations, including carrying excessive loads, ignoring the terms of the service level requirements, driving with an expired motorcycle license, not having insurance coverage, the drivers not having a valid driver’s license (CDL) and professional license, as well as technical violations.
“Of the seized vehicles, six of the drivers were from Indonesia and India, while eight were Malaysians. Enforcement action was taken with the issuance of summons to the drivers and owners of the vehicles in accordance with the provisions of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010) and the Road Transport Act 1987,” JPJ said in a statement.

The operation, which will be carried out until December 31 this year, aims to ensure road safety and promote compliance with traffic rules among commercial vehicle operators, the road transport department said.
“Our main focus is on areas identified as hotspots for activities involving commercial vehicles carrying excessive loads. High-risk cargo types include stones, sand, soil, silica, coal, iron, oil palms and tree trunks. Most of these vehicles are involved in the quarry, port and heavy industry sectors,” the report said, adding that KL JPJ has inspected 5,967 vehicles so far.
Challenges faced by KL JPJ included drivers refusing to cooperate by giving various excuses, such as claiming their vehicles were damaged, and refusing to send their vehicles for weighing, the department said. Such actions can be prosecuted under Section 234 of APAD 2010 for obstructing government officials in the discharge of their duties, which provides for a fine of up to RM200,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, it added.
