Kitchener Rangers Weekend Preview: schedule updates, Erie Otters & Owen Sound Attack – The Hockey Writers OHL Latest News, Analysis and more

The Kitchener Rangers are on a warm start. After the first week of Ontario Hockey League (OHL) promotion, they are 2-0-0-0 after that Defeat the Brantford Bulldogs in the extension To open the season and the Erie Otters in the second game of the season.

Cameron Arquette, Matheas Stark, Haeden Ellis and Tanner Lam led offensively. Jason Schaub was a brick wall in the net and stopped 61 of 65 shots for a .938 savings percentage.

During the first weekend, the Rangers missed several of their NHL-arranged players who attended training camps. For their second game week, however, the Rangers can bring some of this talent back to their line -up.

This weekend the Rangers will again be opposite the Otters, this time on Friday evening in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, and will then play again on the road against the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday. First, let’s investigate who will regain the Rangers from NHL training camps, and then we will look at every matchup this weekend.

Rangers -schedule announcements

On Tuesday The Rangers announced That four players would return to their Junior A, Junior B or under-16 AAA teams. Alex Forrest, Tommy Kut and Evan Nicholson all skated for the Rangers last weekend. All three were selected within the first five rounds of the 2025 OHL priority selection and will probably have a greater impact in the coming seasons. Nevertheless, the four together with goalkeeper Mason HRiczov were sent down to make room for seven veterans who return from NHL training camps.

Matthew Hlacar returns from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Christian Humphreys of the Colorado Avalanche, Luca Romano of the New York Islanders, Christian Kirsch of the San Jose Sharks, Jack Pridham and Max Diracolo, who had an amateur Redings.

While the Rangers Cameron Reid and Luke Ellinas can still miss this weekend, this is a good injection of important attacking players back into the line -up.

Erie Otters vs. Kitchener Rangers

This will be the second consecutive week that these two teams will match. Last weekend the Rangers got away With a 3-1 victory on the road. The main story that goes in this game, at least from my perspective, will be or head coach Jussi Ahokas decides to give the otters a different look and to go with Kirsch in Net to give him his first rangers starting on home ice. Or does Ahokas drive the hot hand in Schaububel?

The victory of the Rangers on the Otters Last weekend was their sixth straight head-to-head dating from last season, when the Rangers took the season series 5-1-0-0. Last season the Otters ended with a 34-28-4-2 record. They are expected to be a middle-of-the-pack team again this season, with the Power rankings of the OHL she places 15th in their preseason -edition And 16th after the first weekend.

The consistent theme for the Otters, including their five pre -season matches, is that they have difficulty generating an offense and have scored only 10 goals in seven games. Despite their struggles to find the back of the net, the Otters have surpassed the Rangers with 12 in the first matchup of the season.

Although the Rangers did not struggle to find the back of the net in the first week, it will be interesting to see how much more they can generate with different of their best attacking players who have been back in the line -up.

Kitchener Rangers vs. Owen Sound Attack

The next day the Rangers will get away with the attack, which started their season by beating the ruling Memorial Cup champion London Knights in the extension.

Just like the Rangers, the attack will get some help Returning NHL -Training camps. Harry Nansi returns from the Maple Leafs, Matthew Koprowski returns from a free agent Invitation with the St. Louis Blues and Team Canada World Junior Championship -goalkeeper Carter George returns from the Los Angeles Kings Camp.

In the Power Rankings of the OHL, the attack was arranged in 16th place and after a victory against the Knights they moved to the 14th. The Rangers are not only expected to be the better team, but they were also successful last season in this head-to-head matchup and placed a record of 5-0-1-1 against the attack.

Despite the expectations of the middle, the attack could be a difficult team to play against. They secretly have good attacking talent and some of the best referred depth in the OHL. This will again be a good test for the Rangers.

Keys until the weekend

Puck control -Although the Rangers started the season 2-0-0-0, they were surpassed in both games. Getting Pridham, Romano and Humphreys will be a huge advantage, not only in scoring, but also in controlling the puck in the offensive end. None of the teams playing the Rangers this weekend are offensive powerhouses, and with the talent that the Rangers have back, are looking for them this weekend to control the Puck more.

Continue to keep disciplined – Due to their first two games, the Rangers only had to kill three penalties. That is compared to the nine power play opportunities. With their full addition to players, the Rangers should have two excellent power play units. With their speed, size and skill they will probably draw countless punishments. The Rangers are one of the best teams from top to bottom in the competition, and if they stay out of the box and force teams to beat them on even strength, it doesn’t seem like they lose a lot of games.

With all the additions that return to the line -up of the Rangers, it will be interesting to see how everyone in it slots, and it will be intriguing to see when Kirsch gets his first start in the net. What will be the most interesting is to see if the Rangers can expand their winning series to three, then four.
