Despite the rumors going around the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings have shot down and confirmed that the team is looking for a coaching change. Several insider sources confirmed that Kings GM Ken Holland has said the rumors are not true.
TSN’s Pierre LeBrun wrote“I reached out to Ken Holland about today’s speculation about a possible coaching change in LA and the Kings GM says “there’s no truth to that.” Dennis Berstein tweeted: “Multiple sources: Kings have not considered a coaching change, no potential candidates have been contacted. One source noted prior to back2back L at home this week: Kings had 3 regulation L in the last 20.”
As for who the potential candidates are that haven’t been contacted yet, Pete DeBoer is the popular name being floated. He might be the best coach there is. DeBoer isn’t coming in, at least not yet.
Nick Alberga added, “Additionally, I also asked Pete DeBoer about this. He was also quick to deny the speculation. Despite back-to-back losses, the Kings have put together a pretty decent 20-game run. They’ve put up points.”
Clearly, this is a story to keep an eye on. The rumor came from somewhere and received serious attention before the Netherlands brought it up. It often applies: where there is smoke, there is fire. And it’s not like Holland is going to admit he’s thinking about change while his current coach is still employed and running the show.
