Kimcando’s last victory in the Junee Cup

The advantage of a pole draw was decisive for the mare Kimcando (American Ideal) as she took a narrow victory in the Phoenix Accounting and Business Services Junee Pacing Cup at the famous Riverina circuit on Saturday evening.

Driven by her young trainer Codi Rauchenberger, Kimcando tried to hold on to the early lead but Shez Sweet Louise, who was heavily backed by favouritism, showed too much speed and was brought forward by Isobel Ross.

With Distinction was caught outside the leader, after which he unfortunately separated and had to settle back in at the back of the field.

Catchafire, which came from his Leeton Cup victory, took place in the second half of the field.

However, Shez Sweet Louise seemed to be traveling well enough into the final corner and she pulled away with what looked to be a winning breakaway. But Kimcando was undeniable and gradually she overcame Shez Sweet Louis to win the cup by a head, while Messerati finished third, ahead of Catchafire, who never looked like he would catch the leaders.

Kimcando scored 1.58.4 and gave Rauchenberger one of her greatest successes to date. Kimcando is out of the former smart racing mare Jazzam (Christian Cullen) who won 24 races for more than $231,000 in stakes. In coverage, she has left RocknRoll Pearl and Justify, both useful artists.

With distinction it turned out that whoever finished on the track had thrown a shoe, so under the circumstances his run would be best forgotten.

It turned out to be a big night for the Junee Harness Racing Club. Following last year’s success, they organized another Sheep Shear competition ahead of the nine-event race card. They still have three more meetings to go during the summer period.
