Deeply influenced by the rational structure and the compositive clarity of Vincent’s landscapes, the pioneer of post -impressionism, painter of places, environments and landscapes that have seen the tragedies of history, where human beings seem to be becoming through the dark vortex of evil and their neighbor.
From 28 June to 26 October the master of the sunflowers and the German painter who include history, mythology, legends, alchemy, the devastating effects of the war and the eternal landscape, in an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The presentation will offer a focus on the similarities of thinking, but it will also reveal some differences, giving visitors a new perspective on the work of both masters. Under the highlights of the route, a selection of the famous large -scale Kiefer landscapes, such as, such as The Crows (I Corvi)2019 (thanks to the artist and white cube) e As a more2014 (thanks to Eschaton Foundation). These monumental works express the admiration of Kiefer in a very clear way for the compositive tools used by Van Gogh, due to the approval of high horizon lines, narrow images combined with deep prospects and panoramic sizes. But they also embrace common motives such as crows and wheat fields, and emphasize an in -depth affinity for pictorial textures.
Kiefer’s works approach to the groundbreaking landscapes of Van Gogh, including Sleeveless field with Erpice (Da Millet), 1890 (Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam – Vincent van Gogh Foundation) E Iris Field near Arles1888 (Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam – Vincent van Gogh Foundation), the exhibition will enable visitors to consider Van Gogh’s lasting influence on the artistic practice of his colleague.
To see the drawings will be. Those made by Kiefer in his youth, inspired by Van Gogh during his journey in his footsteps, will be presented together with some drawings by Vincent himself. The exhibition will also be a chance to admire the work Walther von der Vogelweide: Under the Linden on herbs2014 (thanks to the artist and white Cube), a recent work by Kiefer that has never been exhibited before, as well as a new sculpture made for the exhibition, with a high sunflower that comes out of a large pile of books and spreads gold seeds on their lead pages. The image will be dialogue with Pile By Van Gogh, 1887 (Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam – Vincent van Gogh Foundation) and will emphasize the importance of literature and poetry for both artists.
The closure of the path is planning The Star Night (La Notte Stellata)2019 (thanks to the artist and white cube), a monumental straw canvas, gold leaf and electrolysis sediments with which Kiefer visitors will leave an indelible memory of his deep admiration for Van Gogh through a personal interpretation of the iconic Star night.
