Every team has bad results. Experiencing this in two away games is not the worst. Losing the two matches with goal difference is manageable. We’ve seen competition winners do that in the past. Liverpool are in a bad place at the moment, after Leicester used money beyond their wildest dreams and still failed to deliver results.
Marti Cifuentes was responsible for twelve league matches. His statistics so far include 4 wins, 5 draws and 3 defeats. He needs to get at least two wins and a draw from the next three games against Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Norwich.
The biggest concern is the number of players used from the start. 21 players have started matches. James Justin, Kasey McAteer and Bilal El Khannouss left. This opened up spots for Julian Carranza, Jordan James and Aaron Ramsey. It makes a shift, but there is still no real and permanent first eleven.
Leicester had a good run early on, winning away against Charlton and at home against Birmingham. Skipp and Page both started those games. Okoli and Choudhury were also in the starting eleven. Bouba Soumare had his place. They later slipped out of form in games. But looking in the rear mirror, Marti should have kept those players in the team. Changing patterns and players will always be a risk because you break the rhythm. Most fans don’t understand that. They believe in hard work and defending the badge. If a player, like Luke Thomas for example, isn’t performing well, just give him a rest. No, it’s not that easy, he played every minute. Marti trusted him. However, at the moment he is not giving back his confidence. That’s anathema to a manager.
These are crucial facts to consider when analyzing games. They tend to bring certain facts to the table. It is crucial to take these facts to heart. The introduction of Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James has disrupted the structure. Both players looked strong. However, the opposite has happened to the team.
We have also seen Ricardo Pereira and Jeremy Monga both perform much better when playing as substitutes. They are not as effective at starting games. This must be taken to heart. Jeremy Monga should be used carefully. Giving him negative experiences week in and week out is not good for his progress.

We do know that Marti Cifuentes has decided to rotate a bit. He hasn’t really analyzed his games well. He has not found a formula that resembles a fixed design. Jannik Vestergaard, Jacub Stolarczyk and Abdul Fatawu seem to have built up confidence and are smart in almost every game. Luke Thomas has gained a lot of confidence. However, he seems to lack the stability needed to earn that trust. He has to take it with him.
Fans of all football clubs and especially this Leicester group seem to have short memories or no memory at all. Especially those who go vocal without really doing the proper checking before expressing negativity and talking fog. They are usually completely lost, change their minds and just don’t support the team as they should.
We do see that Leicester is missing a goalscorer when we look at the statistics. They lack imagination in advance. We have suggested that Marti Cifuentes start with Mavididi, Fatawu and Monga all up front in the starting line-up. Give those three players the freedom to rotate up front. Fatawu should get more scoring opportunities and can easily be the frontman, no problem. All three should have free roles and not be tied down, as we saw against Millwall and Hull, where they were held back with too many back passes or predicted runs and movements.
Looking at previous managers and their starts in Championship. Enzo Maresca started with 11 wins and 1 loss in his first 12 games in charge. He scored 33 points in his first twelve games. A much better start than what Marti experienced. Nigel Pearson’s second spell saw him start with five draws, four wins and three defeats. A very similar start to Marti. Prior to Nigel, Svennis had the following: 6 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws.
We have to be patient to see what happens in the next two games. Looking at the results, removing Oliver Skipp and Bouba Soumare from the team seems like a strange move. From an analytical point of view, this decision is confusing. Jordan James and Aaron Ramsey have not yet managed to leave their mark on the results. We must view their introduction with a special eye.
There are also other observations that are a bit surprising, but the statistics should never be faulted. We’ve seen a lot of things from social media. From conversations from fans, they seem to be completely wrong in their assumptions. Their ideas about what to do and what not to do are, as usual, misleading. It’s always helpful to look at the statistics before drawing conclusions and expressing yourself.
In any case, we have to be patient with Marti Cifuentes in January. Doing anything else would be far from a good decision. All Leicester fans need to behave. They should start acting with some kind of memory.
