Mike Mallott accused Kevin Holland of embellishment.
Mallott earned a major unanimous decision victory over Holland at UFC Vancouver this weekend, scoring his third straight victory in the Octagon and moving his record to 6-1 under the UFC banner. However, the victory came with a hint of controversy after the Canadian hit his opponent twice below the belt during the opening round.
The first incident came via an errant forward kick that grazed the Dutch cup. The fight resumed after a few moments, but things came to a standstill 30 seconds later when Mallott threw a knee that appeared to catch Holland on the peninsula south of the equator.
Holland was eventually able to continue fighting, but not before he was writhing in pain on the Octagon mat.
Discussing the incident during a performance on The Ariel Helwani ShowMallott accused Holland of milking the second low blow and claimed he had only ‘polished’ Holland’s cup.
“I told the referee that my knee hit his hip. I think what hit his groin was my shin. My shin hit his cup, but the impact wasn’t on the cup. My knee hit his belt line. It was a little lower than I intended. Just look back, I hit him right on the belt line. I’m not kneeling against his cup. There may have been a brush of my shin when my knee landed, which might not have felt good.”
“I’ve been hit hard in the groin in practice, considerably harder than that, and have kept at it, had full sparring sessions. I think there was embellishment during the groin shot to make a point and then as a little excuse, as if the fight was slipping away.”
Holland has since provided an update on his condition, revealing that he was still suffering the effects of the low blow two days later.
“Man, look what you talking about bro, kick a std in my d*ck my [nuts] hurt,” Holland wrote after the fight.
“Mine [nuts] still throbbing, never thought I would ask my mom to take me for an ultrasound,” Holland added in a message on Monday.
