Kevin Filling: Manchester United transfer takes a shock turn – Man United news and transfer news | The People’s Person

Manchester United’s interest in Kevin Filling has taken an unexpected turn after a report revealed that the Red Devils had begun negotiations for the 16-year-old striker.

“Concrete negotiations”

As relayed by The People’s Person here, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that United were in “concrete negotiations” with AIK Fotboll to sign their starlet.

The striker marked a triumphant debut for Allsvenskan with a goal and is considered one of the standout players in Swedish football.

With a 6ft 2in frame and excellent physicality and mobility, Filling has already drawn lofty comparisons with Alexander Isak – who also came through AIK’s youth system – and former Red Devil Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Plettenberg claims United had opened talks to sign the youngster for a fee of around £2.6 million, enough to secure his signature.

The German reporter also noted that there was significant interest in the Swedish U-17 international within the Bundesliga, with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur having previously been linked with a move.

But according to a new report today, Plettenberg’s update is incorrect – and fans shouldn’t expect to see the Swedish star holding down a red shirt anytime soon.

No agreement

Steven Railston (Manchester Evening News) dismisses the idea that United are in talks for Filling as the club is “not currently pursuing” the striker.

“It is claimed that United are in negotiations to sign Filling from AIK for around €3 million (£2.6 million), but the Manchester Evening News understands this is way off the mark.”

Railston reveals that it is “not unusual for United to be mentioned in transfer reports to give agents influence”, suggesting this is the case with Filling.

He goes on to write that “as a result of Brexit rules” United’s academy is “essentially limited to a British-based recruitment search”, dismissing the idea that Filling could join United in January as he is only 16 and would be joining from another European country.

“Premier League and EFL clubs cannot sign players from abroad until they are 18, and all transfers from European countries require a work permit which is awarded using a points system.”
