Kevin Durant’s first game with the Rockets went about as any Suns fan expected

Why is Kevin Durant ever in the corner? Kevin Durant should honestly never be in the corner. At least, because he’s Kevin Durant.

In Durant’s debut with the Rockets, he spent a lot of time in the corner. He certainly wasn’t bad: 9 for 16 from the field, 23 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists is a good game. Additionally, the Thunder had a clear goal of taking KD out of the game by denying him the ball for 48 minutes and immediately providing extra help when he received the ball.

But still… Durant never took control of the game, and the Rockets lost by one in a thriller. Blaming him for the loss is probably unfair; Asking him to do a little more when the game is on the line is fair, and he hasn’t come through.

Good, but ultimately not dominant enough is a familiar sight to Suns fans who saw Durant be so good so many times when he was in Phoenix – but just not produce the satisfying, dominant ending to games they would have liked. I know it sounds greedy, but that was the truth of KD’s tenure in the Valley, and it’s also the first thing Rockets fans experienced.

Kevin Durant is still elite, but looked passive in the Rockets debut

I’m about as big an Amen Thompson fan as you’ll find. But he should never take more shots in a game than Kevin Durant. He did on Tuesday. I also think Jabari Smith Jr. is a solid NBA player… but he also made almost as many shots (15) as Durant. Even Reed Sheppard took 11 shots off the bench, and he should probably take about 10 percent as many shots as Durant every night.

These aren’t the Phoenix Suns’ problems anymore, but fans can certainly empathize (whether they want to or not) with Rockets fans wondering why Durant didn’t do just… a little… little… more… in a close loss. I’m sure some people in Phoenix tonight were having flashbacks to years past.

About 99 percent of the time, having Kevin Durant on your favorite team is great. However, that other 1 percent of time is spent yelling, “Where is Kevin Durant?! Give him the ball! Please!” Actually, that was about 25 percent of tonight’s game for the Rockets. Suns fans know the feeling a little too well.
