The Phoenix Suns aren’t exactly missing Kevin Durant, and the current Houston Rocket has been busy in recent days with many rumors flying about his use of social media.
Despite being one of the best pure scorers of all time and a superstar who didn’t leave Phoenix under the worst of circumstances, he’s no Chris Paul either.
Durant gives Suns flowers for an excellent season
But when speaking to the media (incl Duane Rankin by The Arizona Republic) in the aftermath of All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Durant was quick to praise the campaign the Suns had put together, saying:
“Teams you didn’t think would be in the running, like Phoenix, who no one thought would be that good, go out and look like a contending team.” Fighting team you say?
“It just shows how much talent there is in the league. Great coaching. Great General Managers in the league to put these good teams together. While we might be just shy of calling the Suns true contenders this season, they are 32-23 and Durant is clearly aware that they are going to struggle in the playoffs.
Getting there with this roster would be Devin Booker’s biggest achievement in The Valley, but the way they’re playing every night makes it feel like they’re going to make it.
Durant and the Rockets will certainly be waiting, what a first-round matchup that would be, especially since Durant didn’t win a single postseason game in his two full seasons in Phoenix.
The 37-year-old certainly did not have to shout at his former team and has once again shown the duality of his personality.
How can a man who is so purely focused on the hoops, but who also understands that this is a business, also be the same person who seems to be engaging in one of the most ridiculous back-and-forth social media conversations we’ve ever seen?
This is someone who, whether those burner accounts are real or not, had a Rockets fan interact with his actual account not too long ago.
Then giving a classy and measured answer in person only adds to the confusion about who he is as a player and his legacy in this game.
Things haven’t worked out between the Suns and Durant, but neither side has ever blamed the other and both have kept it moving in search of success. There’s a lot to be said for that.
