Keshad Johnson made a statement on All-Star Saturday, followed by a statement about his future.
The Miami Heat forward won the 2026 Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday, defeating Carter Bryant of the San Antonio Spurs in the final round.
After securing the title, Johnson made his intentions clear.
“I’m preparing to make my mark on the league. I’m trying to show everyone that I’m here to stay. I’m going to keep my head down, keep working, keep praying and just be a good asset to my teammates, my Heat organization. Show everyone who I am and go out there and prove that I’m an NBA player,” he said.
The 24-year-old is in his second NBA season and remains a developmental figure in Miami’s rotation.
He played in 21 games in 2025-26, averaging 3.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per game while shooting 40.4% from the field.
His role has been limited, with no starts, but the athletic wing has shown efficiency in short bursts.
Last season he shot 69.2% from the field in 16 appearances, albeit on low volume, and posted an effective field goal percentage of .750.
Miami is currently eighth in the Eastern Conference at 29-27, averaging 119.6 points per game as a team.
The offense runs primarily through Norman Powell (23.0 points per game), Tyler Herro (21.9) and Bam Adebayo (18.4), forcing young reserves to get minutes with defense and energy.
For Johnson, that means maximizing possession, cutting without the ball and defending multiple positions.
