1 Robertson St, Kensington, sold this weekend for $1.221 million.
A house in Kensington has made its lucky owners unexpected millionaires after a Saturday auction.
The two-bedroom house at 1 Robertson St was listed in the $900,000-$990,000 range but rose to seven figures under the hammer.
Rendina Real Estate director Lou Rendina said the property sold for $1.221 million after four bidders competed for the keys.

The result was an impressive $231,000 over the $990,000 reserve, the amount the home was marketed for.
Mr Rendina said one of the owners, who was in Bali at the time of the auction, had joked over the phone that she would celebrate with a cocktail.
“They were over the moon and it was way beyond their expectations,” Mr Rendina added.
The home’s new owners, a young couple, said they were pleased to have secured their first property after three months of searching.
“We wanted to live in Kensington and downtown, and it’s a great little house,” said one of the buyers.
The living room of the Kensington house is equipped with split system air conditioning.
Stainless steel appliances in the kitchen include a dishwasher and gas cooktop.
The home features an updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a dedicated study area with a built-in desk and polished hardwood floors.
Mr Rendina said prices in the Kensington area could potentially rise in the first half of 2026 as there are not many listings coming to the market at the moment.
“But as more landlords start selling, you’ll find the playing field levels out a little bit,” he said.
The owners of the Kensington house were investors who had previously rented it out.
65 Bridge St, Northcote, has plenty of historic charm.
Buyers could see the potential for renovation in the house.
A Victorian-era Northcote home also exceeded its owners’ expectations last weekend after fetching $1.715 million under the hammer.
The property’s online listing described the three-bedroom home at 65 Bridge St as having “seen better days” with “plenty of potential for renovation and expansion.”
Nelson Alexander director Luke Sacco said the opening bid of $1.6 million was already above the advertised range of $1.45-$1.58 million.
Four bidders tried to make the house theirs.
The house is close to Westgarth Village, shopping, trams, Merri train station and walking trails. It is also earmarked for Northcote High School and Merri Creek Primary School.
“A family planning to do a renovation were the buyers,” Mr. Sacco said.
“They were convinced by the character and the north-facing backyard.”
The location close to Westgarth Village, cafes, parks and public transport was also appealing.
Mr Sacco said he had seen some house hunters ‘buying almost in panic’ in a bid to secure a property before Christmas, but it was not a widespread phenomenon.
