BYU signed Kennard Davis Jr. suspended indefinitely
Head coach Kevin Young offered no additional updates, but he did say Davis has been suspended indefinitely, and the school said in a statement last week that they were “looking into the situation.”
On Thursday, November 13 at approximately 11:45 a.m., police officers responded to a crash at the intersection of 900 West and Center Street in Provo.
Kennard Davis Jr. was charged with marijuana possession and driving under the influence after last week’s crash in Provo that sidelined him for Saturday’s UConn game, according to a redacted police report obtained by ESPN on Tuesday.

According to the police report, officers at the scene administered “standard field sobriety tests” on Davis to make their determination prior to the DUI arrest.
“During the investigation of the accident, officers found cause to arrest one of the drivers – Kennard Davis, 20 years old – for suspected intoxication. Davis was transported to the Provo Police Department for further investigation and was subsequently charged with intoxication. He was released for medical treatment for minor injuries and his vehicle was impounded,” the press release said.
Officer suspected Davis was impaired
An officer at the scene said he suspected Davis had a disability.
“I responded to assist a traffic accident when I began to suspect that one of the drivers was impaired,” the officer wrote in the report, according to ESPN’s Myron Medcalf. “He was eventually arrested for driving under the influence.”
Janna-Lee Holland, spokesperson for the Provo police, told Medcalf on Nov. 14 that “the other party” in the crash suffered no injuries requiring transport to a local hospital.
BYU is the flagship school of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The university has a strict honor code that requires each student to “make a personal commitment to abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, vaping and substance abuse, both on and off campus.”
Any student who violates these rules may face penalties “up to and including dismissal from the University or termination of employment,” according to the school’s honor code.
Through two games this season, Davis is averaging 9.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 27 minutes per outing while shooting 58.3% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.
