Summary of the game
Boston got the game going late in the first period when Shay Maloney raced past the defense and went up to Maddie Rooney. Then, just over a minute later, Megan Keller connected one via a screen to extend her team’s lead. The Fleet would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, with the shots at 17-11 in front of them.
In the second inning, the Frost fell behind early when Klára Hymlárova hit in a nice centering pass. That goal was quickly erased when Minnesota took a penalty and Abby Newhook filled one house on the ensuing power play. The Fleet held their own for the remainder of the period, taking a 3–1 lead into the final frame. Even at 25-22 the shots were in favor of the home team.
The third period started with an early Fleet power play that resulted in another goal. Theresa Schafzahl scored a rebound past Rooney for her first of the season. That goal at the beginning would wrap things up in this one. Boston won the game 4-1, but also led in shots at 35-27.
Boston defensemen Keller and Haley Winn led the way as Keller had a goal and an assist, while Winn added a pair of helpers. Goalkeeper Aerin Frankel was sharp as always and made 26 saves.
Both teams will play their next match against each other as they meet on Friday evening (December 19) at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM MDT.
