September sales schedule

Catalog for 12 sessions auction now online

For the fifth consecutive year, books 1 and 2 have cataloged more than 1,000 yearlings during the first four days of the September sale as the best individuals of the auction based on conformation and on certain family trolleis factors such as family sales history, spin tribe and father’s ability. This placement enables large domestic and international buyers to possibly inspect the largest number of exceptional horses before the “dark day” on Friday 12 September when no sale is kept.

The auction will resume on Saturday 13 September and again follows the original schedule of 12 days, but has a two -part book 5. Horses in Book 5Awill sell Wednesday 17 September and Thursday 18 September. Yearlings in Book 5b will sell on Friday, September 19 and Saturday 20 September.

“Although this shift in terminology is subtle, we believe that it more accurately reflects the quality of these sessions and drives the right buyer involvement – ensuring that these yearlings receive the buyers and attention they deserve,” said Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy. “Various encouraging developments have brought this decision: the strength of the individuals, the continuous growth of the catalog and the developing commercial breeding practices that continue to increase the general standard that is offered. This has resulted in a depth and consistency of quality during all 12 days of sale as opposed to everything we have seen before.”

Strategic placement of all yearlings in the entire catalog is intended to guarantee visibility and to enable buyers to encounter diversity in every phase of the sale. In recent years, Keeneland has seen a long -term interest of leading buyers during the last day, a powerful indicator for the power of sale.

“The September sale continues to attract more buyers than any other yearling sales in the world, and we are committed to structure sales in a way that supports the success of our sellers at every level of the market,” said Keeneland Senior Director of Sales Operations Cormac Breathnach.
