Rising UFC bantamweight contender Melissa Croden recently gave her assessments of the impending superfight, with a specific guided focus on the fact that the fight is not a headliner attraction. When asked if she had any thoughts on the hierarchy of card placement, with Harrison vs. Nunes would be a co-main event in the interim lightweight title fight between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje, Croden said [via MMA Canada],
“I feel like it deserves a main event. I mean, they’re both Kayla Harrison and Amanda Nunes, like they’re both at the top of their game. So I think it deserves a main event, but you know, who knows who makes these decisions, you know? I just feel like they do it based on how they feel that day. I don’t know. Who knows?”
“But either way, I think it’s going to be a sick fight to watch. They’re both so talented and they’re both like monsters in the game. They’re both big. They’re both strong. And they’ve been doing it for so long. They’re both used to winning, so it’s one of those fights that will be a lot of fun to watch.”
Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes “brings light to the division”
This highly anticipated clash between Harrison and Nunes has injected a certain level of excitement into the 135-pound class, and in discussing the surrounding benefits of what this fight does to the weight class she fights in, Melissa Croden said [via MMA Canada],
“Yeah, it definitely brings light to the division itself as a whole. Like there’s a lot of talented girls in the UFC bantamweight division. Yeah, I think there’s definitely more movement lately than before, but I think that’s true with every division.”
“They all have their moments and they disappear and they come back. It just depends on who is in the spotlight at that moment and drawing attention to it.”
Sara Collins also took part in the huge UFC title fight with the former PFL title challenger, recognizing the magnitude of the match. Collins recently fought Cris Cyborg for her PFL featherweight belt, with one of Cyborg’s only two losses coming against Amanda Nunes. Collins also comes from a judo foundation with prolific Judoka Kayla Harrison, and is preparing to battle the women’s MMA GOAT in the coming weeks.
As the standout 145-pounder shifts her focus from the Smart Cage to what’s happening in the octagon at UFC 324 with Harrison vs. Nunes, Collins said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“I think it’s going to be an interesting fight. I definitely think Kayla can win. Nunes in particular has had quite a long break. Kayla is just at her peak right now. I think it’s a great opportunity and timing for Kayla to really show that she is the best and that judo is the best.”
