Shaine Casas completes the Westmont series of IM events
Canadas Ilya Kharun second 1-2 finish over Switzerland Something Ponti he won the men’s 50m butterfly in a row with a 21.69, just over a tenth ahead of Ponti’s 21.80.
While Kharun leads in the butterfly, American Shaine Casas completed its own Westmont action of the IMs. On Sunday he scored a personal best by more than five seconds, his 3:57.41 ahead of teammate Carson Foster.
“I was super happy to race in front of this crowd and show them where I am with this event,” Casas said before admitting he kept an eye on Foster across the pool over the final 25 meters. “I was like, ‘Please don’t catch me.'”
In another big men’s race in the evening, that of Hungary Hubertus Kos won the 100 meter backstroke, beating the Italian Thomas Ceccon48.78 to 49.60.
Team USA Gretchen Walsh hit first in the 100-meter butterfly, clocking a time of 53.72.
Earlier this evening, Australia Lani Pallister was on the hunt Katie Ledecky’s World record in 1500m freestyle, which she fell from, but still claimed victory in 15:13.83.
The 23-year-old grew up looking up to the legendary Olympic swimmer.
“I’m happy with that for now,” Pallister said of her effort in the 1500 meters. “It felt pretty terrible in the 200[-metre mark]but I’m quite happy with it. I grew up idolizing Katie. It’s pretty cool to race in the pool here. But I have some big goals for myself. And we want to continue making progress.”
