Karun Nair is back in the Interior Cricket and is mentioned in Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy selection for their opening match against Saurashtra on October 15 in Rajkot.
The 31-year-old Slagman from the middle class returns after an interruption of two seasons, determined to make impact, even though he was dropped from the Indian test team.
Nair, best known for his unbeaten 303 against England in 2016, played for Vidarbha for the last time and helped them to win the Ranji Trophy.
His recent domestic form earned him a comeback in the test after eight years, but he only won half a century in four games in England.
The main selector of India, Ajit Agarkar, recently stated: “We had expected more from Karun Nair in England. It cannot only be about one innings … Devdutt Padikkal offers us more options”, so that Nair’s Test-Hoop is now effectively terminated.
Nair returns to Karnataka and wants to leave his mark on the domestic season. Mayank Agarwal will lead the team, including new faces such as Kruthika Krishna, Shikhar Shetty and Mohsin Khan. Their first challenge comes against defending champion Saurashtra.
In the meantime, Karnataka’s Under-19 selection for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy will be led by Anvay Dravid, son of India coach Rahul Dravid. The young Wicketkeeper-Bulman was Karnataka’s top scorer in the previous edition and will guide promising talents such as Nitish Arya, S Manikh and Rehan Mohammed.
