Betting tips for Big Bash League (BBL15) Heat vs Sixers
Gabba, Sunday January 18, 7:15pm AEDT
Brisbane heat
The Heat are currently fifth, one point behind the Sixers, and can reach the finals with a win. Their season was hanging by a thread in midweek before producing one of BBL15’s most remarkable wins against the Hurricanes. Brisbane batted first and made 8/160, with Nathan McSweeney anchoring the innings with 49 off 32.
The match looked over when Hobart cruised to 2/124, but Brisbane pulled off a stunning collapse, taking six wickets for just 32 runs. Xavier Bartlett led the charge with 3/44 as belief spread through the field and the Heat grabbed the win out of nowhere. It was the kind of win that can define a season, especially when you return home for a do or die clash. Selection looks simple. There’s an argument for promoting Marnus Labuschagne higher up, but after a season-saving performance, it’s hard to see the Heat making any changes.
Sydney Sixers
The Sixers come in with just as much on the line, knowing that a win not only secures the finals, but could also earn a top two finish and a double-digit opportunity. Their statement performance came Friday night against the Thunder. Bowling first they conceded 6/189, a total that put heavy pressure on the chase. Steve Smith responded with one of the great Big Bash innings, hitting 100 off 42 balls and setting up an opening partnership of 141 runs with Babar Azam.
The target was chased with 16 balls left and the message was clear. Despite a brief on-field battle between Smith and Azam during the partnership, the outcome spoke for itself. With Smith, Starc, Abbott and Curran all available, the Sixers suddenly look like a side built for a deep finals run rather than one scraping into the eight.
Match prediction
Brisbane will draw confidence from their momentum and the familiarity of the home conditions, but across 40 overs the Sixers simply have more match-winners who fire at the right time. Steve Smith operates at a level above the rest of the competition and his presence alone reshapes the game. Add to that the return of Starc and Abbott on the ball and the improving mid-range contributions of Shaw and Edwards, and Sydney look better equipped for a high-pressure scenario.
The Heat will compete and likely have moments, but the Sixers’ ceiling feels higher. Back to Sydney to finish the job along the way and score their final ticket.

BBL Heat vs Sixers Prop Bet
For the player prop, it’s tough to go past Steve Smith again. He has an outrageous touch and his recent BBL scores read 36, 101, 125*, 66, 18, 61, 0, 121*, 52 and 100. That’s an average of 89.7 over his last nine completed innings. In must-win games he has consistently delivered, and this marks another night where he has a big say.
