Rest easy, wild fans. The day we all waited has arrived. Wild lw, Kirill Kaprizov and wild gm, Bill Guerin Today held a press conference in St. Paul to announce an NHL record 8-year-old, $ 136 million extension for the 28-year-old Russian, Kaprizov. Not since the double dose of disappointment in 2012 when the game drew Zach Parise And Ryan Sterhas made a player signing of so much buzz in the state of hockey.
Don’t get me wrong, at the time I loved the Parouse/Suter movement. As a sports fan in Minnesota we don’t see bold movements that often. Don’t even let me start with Herschel Walker. Usually, if a Minnesota sports team makes a daring move, it is to trade the large majority of his talent to save money for the owners of Cheapskate (looking at you, twins). I wander.
There are already comments and debate about whether De Wilde has paid too much to keep Kaprizov. I respond with ‘maybe’. However, it is the best step that the team could make that will give them a reasonable chance to come from the first round of the play -offs (see Wild Playoff History for more info). Are there worries about his ability to prevent injuries throughout the season? Certainly. But when and where the game could find another player with the elite who comes through, shoot and skate skills such as Kirill “The Thrill” has cheaper. The answer? Never and nowhere.
The alternatives to sign him now? Waiting until his contract ends at the end of this season and then tried to sign him, it would undoubtedly have been more expensive because he would have been an unlimited free agent for the first time in his career and he could use the interest of other teams to increase the prize. Not good.
Exchange him halfway through the season as the Trade Deadline approached? Teams would know that they could get him for the distant market value, because the game should take the best offer or lose him for nothing at the end of the season. With teams such as Chicago, Calgary, Detroit and Anaheim who have a boat load cap space, they would fight for Kaprizov and sign him for a long -term agreement, and we would probably get almost nothing compared to comparison. Not good either.
Wait the entire season and do his contract status retain as a big distraction in the dressing room? That would not have been well required for the wild. Having endless questions about his expiring contract status would have been a distraction for anyone associated with the club, including the fans, the entire season. The impending question about his future would have hung about Minnesota as Canadian Wildfire Smoke.
To be honest, unless Kaprizov specifically told the team that he no longer wanted to play in Minny, they had no choice, but to put all their chips in the pot and to go out everything to keep Kaprizov in the state of hockey – which they have reached.
Still not convinced of his interest for wildlife? Here you go.
From now on, De Wild have the following players who will be contract for the contract for at least the next three years:
- Kirill Kaprizov – 1 year/$ 9mm this year and then 8 years/$ 17mm AAV on his new contract
- Matt Boldy – 5 years/$ 7mm AAV
- Joel Eriksson i – 4 years/$ 5.25 mm AAV
- Marco Rossi – 3 years/$ 5mm AAV
- Yakov Trennin – 3 years/$ 3.5 mm AAV
- Marcus Foligno – 3 years/$ 4mm AAV
- Brock Faber – 5 years/$ 8.5 mm AAV
- Jonas Brodin – 3 years/$ 6mm AAV
- Jacob Middleton – 4 years/$ 4.35 mm AAV
- Danila Yurov – 3 years/$ 950k AAV
Jared Spurgeon Become 35 and will earn $ 7,575 mm AAV over the next two years and will then be a UFA. Brodin will be 35 at the end of his contract in three years and earns $ 6 mm per season. By that time Faber, Middleton, and hopefully ZEEV BUIM And David Jiricek Would be the best blueliners. Leaving a 37-year-old Spurgeon and possibly a 35-year-old in Brodin Walk, would free up more than $ 13.5 million per season once Brodin completed his contract.
This year and next year, Buuum has under contract before he becomes an RFA, with Jiricek in the last year of his Rookie contract this year and will therefore become an RFA at the end of the season. Both will be cheap extensions if the wild would sign them again.
Depending on how Mats Zuccaello And Vladamir Gasosko Play this year, moderate format extensions can also be in order for those guys. The next player on which Wild Bill must now concentrate is of course the Gus bus. Goalkeeper, Filip Gustavsson Is on his last year of a $ 3.75 mm contract and will be a UFA at the end of the season, unless he has been signed an extension before that time. Of Jesper Wallstedt Starting his first full season as #2 -target defender in the NHL, the pressure will be on him to perform and on Guerin to sign his #1 tendie in Gustafsson.
That said, Guerin can go out tonight and have a few Martinis, as he referred to this in the press conference of this morning, but rest assured, he will be back in the office tomorrow and work on bringing Lord Stanley’s cup to the state of hockey.
Wilde fans can watch Kaprizov and the rest of the wild tonight in St. Paul while they match the Winnipeg Jets for a new pre -season match from 7 pm. Only ten days until the wild starts their 25th season in the newly renamed Grand Casino Arena in beautiful St. Paul in the city center.
